The new Toll System

Dear Neighbours and Customers,

Whitney Bridge is updating and automating its toll and traffic light system!

For ease of use, the new system will have an ANPR, numberplate recognition facility as well as contactless and coin payments. We are continuing to offer Season Tickets and Multiday Crossings (Tokens), which will be facilitated through a Payment Kiosk located on site.

This means that Whitney Bridge WILL BE CLOSED ON 7th, 8th & 9th December 2020 (next week), to complete these works and general maintenance.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

How The New System Will Work Coins and Contactless

  • When making the £1 payment for a normal crossing, the system will recognise your number plate and issue a ticket.

  • By presenting the ticket at the machine, the vehicle can make unlimited crossings within the same day until 24:00 midnight.

  • The ticket must be kept safe, as without it you cannot recross without making an additional payment.

  • The ticket will be associated with the vehicle’s numberplate read by the ANPR on the initial crossing and will not be valid for any other numberplate.

Multiday Crossings (Tokens)

  • There will no longer be physical tokens. All outstanding tokens can be refunded.

  • Our new system will have a pay station on the back where users will be able to purchase multiple crossings for their registered vehicle and get a printed ticket.

  • The on-site payment machine allows the purchase of Multi-Crossings (Tokens). The 60p price is the same.

  • On purchasing the Multi-Crossing Tokens at the payment machine, you will be requested to enter your vehicles registration number. These tokens will be specific for the use by that vehicle’s registration only.

  • You will receive a receipt for the Tokens that should be kept safe in the vehicle.

  • Once the Multi-Crossing Tokens have been purchased, your number plate will automatically be recognised by the ANPR system when approaching the barrier and will open without presentation of the receipt.

  • One Multi-Crossing Token will be charged and deducted from the balance for each day used by the registered vehicle, (from midnight to midnight). The barrier screen, on passing, will show how many Multi-Crossing Tokens remain for your vehicle.

  • You must ensure you keep your number plates clean as it may not be able to associate your Multi-Crossing Tokens with your number

    plate.

Season tickets

You must retain your current Season Ticket Cards, as these will continue to be used with the new system.

Each Season Ticket Card can be allocated a registration number plate, to be recognised automatically by the ANPR system.

Payments for each vehicle will be either:

3 Monthly              £ 35 per 1st Vehicle

6 Monthly              £ 70 per 1st vehicle

12 Monthly            £120 per 1st vehicle

You can group together a maximum of 3 vehicles/cards per household or business.

If you have a 2nd vehicle/card, you can have 2 number plates on both cards.
The 2nd vehicle will be charged @ 50% of the 1st vehicle price.

If you have a 3rd vehicle/card, you can have 3 number plates on the three cards. The 3rd vehicle will be charged @ 50% of the 1st vehicle price.

i.e., If you have 3 vehicles, your 12 monthly charge will be £120 + £60 + £60

Should you need more for your business, you need to speak to us to arrange.

With the Season Ticket Card, on approaching the barrier machine, the system will automatically open the barrier when a registered number plate is recognised.
All number plates must be kept clean and readable.
Number Plates to the front of tractors must be set at specified hight to open barrier. Please call us to discuss.

Season Ticket Cards must be kept safely in the relevant vehicle at all times.

Any new customers wishing to have a Season Ticket Card, can obtain the new card and set up the ‘account’ from the office. All future payments and updates can be made at the Payment Kiosk. Help is available should you need it.

To ensure a smooth change-over of systems and to avoid any inconvenience to yourselves, ALL Season Ticket Card holders MUST provide the following information, either by email to info@whitneybridge.co.uk or on hardcopy to the Toll Office, by 8th December 2020, containing the following information FOR EACH CARD, to update the system .......

  •   Name

  •   Contact telephone number

  •   Email address

  •   Last 4 digits on Season Ticket Card

  •   Car Registration number/s associated to this Season Ticket Card

(multiple registrations cannot exceed the number of cards)

If any Season Ticket Card details are not forwarded to us by the 8th December or if the details are incorrect, the card will not work. You will need to pay the standard daily toll to cross the bridge, until such time as the card detail is written down and reported to us correctly.

If you no not have access to email, please pop into the office with all your details on paper.

Payment for all Season Ticket Cards will be made at a dedicated Payment Kiosk.
You will be reminded that payment is due by means of a ‘reminder message’ on the barrier box. Damaged or lost cards can be replaced at £5 each.

Standing Order Payments

You must ensure that the information requested above is emailed or handed to us as soon as possible, prior to 8th December.
Those who pay by standing order should cancel their standing order for January 2021.
We will credit your current Season Ticket Card until 31st January.
When there are only 5 days left on the card (27th – 31st January), a message will appear on the barrier machine reminding you that payment is due. You will need to make payment prior or as of 31st January for the card to continue working into February 2021.
You will need to use the dedicated Payment Kiosk to make the payment of your choice (3,6 or 12 months). This will validate your card once again.

Help will be available should you need it.

Annual/Bi-annual One-off Payment

For those who pay annually by cash, credit card, cheque or on-line, you MUST ensure that the information requested above is emailed or handed to us as soon as possible, prior to 8th December.
We will allocate that information to your Season Ticket Card on the new system.
Your ticket will remain valid on the new system until the expiry date that was issued when you last paid your one-off payment.

When your card has only 5 days left until expiry date, a ‘count down’ message will appear on the Toll Machine reminding you that payment is due.
You will need to use the dedicated Payment Kiosk to make the payment of your choice and to validate your card once again.
Help will be available should you need it.

Please Note:

 Speeding

  • Due to the age and structure of this historic bridge, there has always been a 7.5ton weight restriction and a 5mph speed limit.

  • As well as identifying overweight vehicles, the new system also operates speed detection.

  • The barrier will delay its opening for those that have exceeded the speed limit and will issue a screen warning stating that the speed limit has been exceeded.

  • The speeding vehicle number plate will be logged.

  • Repeat offences of speeding by the same vehicle will result in the number plate being excluded from using the bridge.

    Running Red Lights

  • The new toll will operate with new integrated traffic lights.

  • The system will detect the running of red lights.

  • Should a car ignore a red light, the vehicle number plate will be logged.

  • Repeat offences by the same vehicle will result in the number plate being excluded from using the bridge.

Kindest Regards,

Peter and Sarah Crouch
